Over 100 Years of History

Thatcher Children
The M Lazy C Ranch, located 35 miles west of Colorado Springs, was originally the Thatcher homestead built in the early 1900’s. The Thatchers were truck farmers harvesting potatoes and other vegetables for the Denver market and raised cattle and other livestock. The original structures include a log homestead, barn, blacksmith shop, and individual cabins for the working cowboys. Many of the original structures still stand and have been remodeled in a way that blends modern conveniences with the old western style.

Owners – Randy & Brenda Myers

A Real Cowboy Couple: Randy and Brenda Myers
Randy’s cowboy days started when he was a young boy growing up on a dairy farm in the east. In addition to taking care of the cattle, he quickly learned to drive a team of draft horses, as his grandfather never owned a car. Mending fences, taking care of cattle, and playing cowboys and Indians with his brothers fueled his desire to move west and establish a ranch of his own.
Brenda’s family moved to Colorado when she was 4, but it wasn’t until she was 11 that she was able to persuade her parents to buy her a horse, one that bore a striking resemblance to the one her father had when he was young. And the rest, as they say, is history. Brenda embraced the cowgirl lifestyle, competing in Little Britches Rodeos all through her junior and senior high years.
Prior to buying the ranch, Randy and Brenda ran an outfitting business, a cow/calf operation, as well as summer horse programs. It wasn’t until 1992, when they bought the Thatcher homestead, that they were able to bring their family, programs, and dreams all together in one location. Over the years, they updated and renovated the standing structures and raised three children. They look forward to sharing their knowledge and experience with their grandchildren, friends, and guests who come their way.

Animals
This is a working ranch with all kinds of animals. Naturally there are cattle and horses, but not just any horses. Our world famous horses have appeared in various television shows and commercials as well as movies. These horses act as cavalry horses, barrel racing horses, and mounted shooting horses in addition to their other duties as working ranch, cow and trail horses. The M Lazy C is also home to Burger King (pictured above), a longhorn steer that people can ride and of course dogs and cats. Be sure to say hello to Jerry, our 40 year old pony.
